Why climbing?
Reached Thursday by phone, Brian was exhausted but elated, because he made it all the way to the summit. The last time he climbed Kilimanjaro, he was stopped by altitudes sickness at 15,000 feet, even though he was in great shape, had prepared, and followed all the rules for how to climb safely. Some people go to great lengths for a cause they believe in or a person they care about. Brian Cole is going 
to great heights — 19,340 feet to be precise.
That’s the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, his goal in a quest to raise money for research into a disease that changes the lives of one in eight Americans age 65 or over, and millions of people who love them: Alzheimer’s. He’s doing it as a tribute to a man that he, and many readers of this site, hold in great affection: John Hightower.
